Madeleine Gardiner was born in 1993 in Edinburgh and completed a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Leeds College of Art in 2012, before graduating in Painting from Edinburgh College of Art in 2015. Based in Edinburgh, she works from her studio in The Biscuit Factory.
Madeleine says that "wild spaces, memory and atmosphere are key areas of concern in my work. I often create composite landscapes, built from memories that I feel are connected through a shared aesthetic. The way in which elements within a landscape are altered by light is my primary focus, every decision I make is centered around recreating this. I have a fascination with depth, which has lead to an on-going attempt to achieve a sense of immersion through paint."
Some high profile projects that she carried out include supplying a painting to the Scottish Investment Trust plc for the cover of their Annual Report and the image for their re-brand. In conjunction with David Collins Studio, London, Madeleine sold a large painting to one of the Leading Hotels of the World, winner of Scotland's Best Hotel Award 2017, The Gleneagles Hotel. Madeleine was recently invited to support the Alan Shearer Foundation by exhibiting a selection of work at the annual Foundation Ball, a percentage of proceeds were donated to the charity.
