Peter Frederiksen uses nostalgic imagery popularised by the ‘Golden Age’ of cartoons to transform them into unique embroideries. His works siphon the humour, fear, haphazardness and sadness out of these cartoons in order to produce his own artistic language. A piano dangling precariously from a fraying rope, waiting to fall on an unsuspecting victim, or a note in a song rigged to explode. His works depict the tension before a moment of inevitable release. He uses mid-century cartoon aesthetics to capture the rising tensions between two parties, which culminate in an isolated snapshot image, that is void of context: the anxious moment before the eventual release of tension.
