Ocerin Gomis' paintings explore societal complexities through personal narratives. She places hand-crafted plasticine models within various environments in order to better understand the complicated manner in which our bodies interact with space.
She then paints the plasticine figures within a ‘stage’. She sets the scene, within which a story full of passion, controversy, and difficult situations we face in our everyday life play out. After the stage is set, complete with characters, the viewer is presented with a sense of vivacity. She sculpts and paints her figures who are emotive and animated in their gesticulations; in doing so, she is able to present a whole narrative that exists outside of the single snapshot which is presented to the viewer. Her work uses these fictional characters in order to explore the very real problems an individual faces within society.
Ocerin Gomis (b. 1989, Sagunto) lives and works in London. She graduated with a Fine Arts degree from the University of Valencia in 2011. After completing her MA Degree in Artistic Production at Polytechnic University of Valencia in 2014, she moved to London, where she undertook a MA in Fine Arts in 2018 at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.
