Alison Holt is a contemporary textile artist and studied Fine Art Embroidery at Goldsmiths College, London, qualifying in 1979. Every year from 1995 to present day she has been exhibiting at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, London.
Holt is specialized in freehand machine embroidery and uses a basic Bernina sewing machine from 1965 and two techniques - straight and zig-zag stitch. Often influenced by the Shropshire Wales border near Oswestry, where the artist lives and works, she embroiders extremely life-like forest landscapes, flowers, garden scenes and seascapes. Each piece is a combination of silk painting and freehand machine stitching, rich in detail, texture, depth and perspective.
